Colors that appear perfect on a chip look completely different on a wall — affected by the room’s light sources, the flooring, the furniture, and the adjacent colors. Prime Finish Painters offers professional color consultation as a standalone service and as part of every painting project. Our consultants bring physical large-format swatches (not the small chips from the paint store) and evaluate them in your actual space under your actual lighting conditions. We consider the flow between rooms, the effect of natural light at different times of day, and the relationship between wall color and fixed elements like flooring, countertops, and cabinetry. A one-hour consultation typically resolves color choices for an entire home interior.

Prime Finish Painters has served homeowners across Monmouth, Ocean, and Middlesex counties since 2009. Our color consultation work is performed exclusively by our own trained team — we do not subcontract any portion of your project. Michael Caruso personally reviews every estimate and conducts a final walkthrough before considering any job complete.

New Jersey’s coastal climate presents specific challenges for paint and surface finishes. Salt air, humidity, and freeze-thaw cycles accelerate the degradation of improperly applied coatings. Our preparation process — which typically accounts for 40% of total project time — is designed specifically to address these conditions. How much does a color consultation cost?

Our standalone color consultation is $150 for up to two hours on-site. This fee is credited toward any painting project over $1,000 booked within 90 days.

Do you offer color consultation as part of a painting project?

Yes. A basic color consultation is included with every interior painting project over $2,000. We bring swatches and spend 30 to 45 minutes helping you finalize your selections before the project begins.

Can you help me choose exterior colors as well?

Yes. We offer exterior color consultation using large-format swatches evaluated against your home’s siding, roofline, and landscaping. Exterior consultations typically take 45 to 60 minutes.

What paint brands do you recommend?

We work primarily with Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams. Both offer excellent color accuracy and consistency. We can work with any major paint brand if you have a preference.

How do I prepare for a color consultation?

Gather any inspiration images you have — from magazines, Pinterest, or homes you admire. Note any fixed elements you want to work around (flooring, countertops, furniture). That is all the preparation needed.
